Activities & Play
Children start to learn about the world around them as soon as they are born. We feel that the care and education offered by Allexton Day Nursery therefore helps children to continue this by providing interesting and stimulating activities that are appropriate to each child’s age and stage of development.

Children aged 0 to 5 follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which enhances their individual development within four themes.

A Unique Child | Positive Relationships

Enabling Environments | Learning & Development

These are agreed as the key areas through which children develop and learn. The activities we plan and offer within these areas therefore enhance the progress for each child.

The Early Years Foundation Stage profile is an assessment framework based on ongoing observation and assessment in six areas of learning and development. Each child's development is recorded against 13 assessment scales.

The EYFS provides practitioners with guidance and support in creating profiles that summerise and describe each child's learning development at the end of the EYFS (the academic year in which the child becomes five years old).

The document is planned in six areas of learning incorporating;

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

At Allexton Day Nursery we operate a key person system which enables us to develop a closer understanding of each child and any individual or specific needs.

We believe the key person system enables each child to benefit from:

  • The required level of support for their personal development and progress
  • Dedicated time and attention
  • Specific activities to expand learning experiences and progression

Visits, Outings and Safety

To expand each child’s experiences of other environments, and as part of our overall ethos we plan specific trips or outings to incorporate outdoor resources such as local parks, the library and museums.

These we feel contribute to the way children learn benefiting their health and their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

Safety is a very important aspect of life in and out of the nursery. Staffing ratios therefore rise to one member of staff to three children when out of the unit. Risk assessments are always completed to ensure that outings are safe and enjoyable.

Within the nursery again for each child’s safety, all visitors must be signed in and out of the building. If and when children are collected by individuals other than the parent /carer those collecting are required to show identification and know the child’s unique password before being allowed to leave with the child.
